After winning the previous race on Go Another One Jamie Codd quickly doubled-up in the last, as The Winkler (5/1) ran out a comfortable winner of the ML Lynch Civil Engineering (Q.R) Race. Simenon was all the rage for this two mile one furlong contest, with the dual Royal Ascot sent off the 2/7 favourite under Patrick Mullins for his father Willie.

The son of Marju attempted to make all, but once headed over two furlongs out he had no more to offer and finished a disappointing fourth.

The Winkler raced behind the leaders on the inner, but was switched out to challenge with over two furlongs to go.

He was soon got to the front and went clear with more than a furlong to race, going on to score by five and a half lengths. Zafayan ran on to take second under Dean Sinnott for Dermot Weld at 7/2, while 50/1 chance Kildunne was another three and three parts of a length back in third.

Eoin Doyle trains the winner, and he said afterwards: "He likes this place, and my horses weren't right when he was pulled up the last day.

"He’ll probably go back over fences now at Listowel. He stays well."

The successful grey son of Medaaly is owned by Jamie Dunphy from Mooncoin.
