A combination of stall one and first-time cheekpieces saw Solomons Seal dominate from the front under Gary Halpin in the Irish Examiner Handicap at Killarney.

The five-year-old gelding powered home over the extended mile by three lengths at 13/2 for trainer Joseph Murphy.

He beat well backed 4/1 favourite Doogan's Warren into second. Voyageofdiscovery was a length further back in third.

"I'm delighted with that and the cheekpieces helped him concentrate a bit better,” Joseph Murphy said.

“We used the draw and it worked out. We were a little bit afraid it might not.

“He's in Cork next so he'll go there again. I hope the handicapper treats us fairly.

“He delivered today and he's a fun horse.”
