The Stewards of the Irish National Hunt Steeplechase Committee (INHSC) have today released the fixture list for the Spring 2022 Point to Point season.

In line with the Spring 2021 season, 78 fixtures have been scheduled with the opening fixture set to be hosted by the Duhallow (F) Kanturk Hunt Committee at Dromahane, Co. Cork on Thursday 30th December 2021.

Furthermore, the Stewards of the INHSC have approved the shortening of the Spring season from 2022 onwards, in that the last day of the season will be no later than the last day in May rather than no later than the first Monday in June which it has traditionally been. Consequently, the Spring 2022 season will conclude on Sunday 29th May with the South Union (F) fixture at Kinsale, Co. Cork and the North Kerry (H) fixture at Tralee racecourse.

There will be one new course in the Spring season when the Scarteen (F) Hunt will unveil their new course at Comea, Kilfeacle, Co. Tipperary on Sunday 13th February 2022. Work has commenced on a provisional summary of races for all 78 fixtures, details of which will be issued once this process is completed.

All scheduled Point to Point fixtures will adhere to Government health guidelines applicable at the time and in compliance with the Protocols for Point to Point Racing in Ireland in the Context of the Covid-19 Pandemic.

Martin O’Donnell, Senior Steward of the INHSC, commented: “The Stewards of the INHSC would like to express their gratitude to all Hunt Committees that applied to host a fixture in the Spring 2022 season.

"The Stewards are conscious of the work involved in running a Point to Point and the difficulties Hunt Committees face at this time.

"There are particular issues with insurance and we note that many Hunt Committees included in the fixture list announced today have not been able to host their traditional fixture since the Spring of 2019. The resilience of these Hunt Committees over the past few years should not be underestimated by the industry.

"As always, I would like to reassure all Hunt Committees involved in the upcoming season that the Stewards of the INHSC, the Registrar, Paul Murtagh and all IHRB staff will continue to assist in every way possible to ensure a successful Spring season."
