The Jim Bolger-trained Theophile gained a deserved win when sticking her head out in the closing stages to land the Sands Of Mali @Ballyhane Fillies Maiden at Fairyhouse.

Kevin Manning tracked the leaders on the 2/1 favourite before pulling her out to launch a challenge inside the final furlong.

The daughter of Teofilo had to work hard to get the better of Lilandra close home and record a half length success.

“She deserved that as she's been knocking on the door,” said travelling head lad Ger Flynn.

“It's nice to get it for the pedigree. She's a sister to Tobann who was placed in the Matron Stakes.

“It's very nice of Joe Foley to sponsor the race, he's local to Jim.

“We'll see what the handicapper does now. Everything went wrong for her at the start, she didn't jump great and they went plenty quick enough.

“He was always in a good position down the rail but around here if you don't get out and get a run you can go to the line on the bridle.

“In fairness she got out, came home well and battle well. She was very brave in the end.”
