Bottom weight Tongie gained a third career win in the third race at Gowran today, landing the Talbotcarlow.ie Careys Cottage Handicap Chase for trainer Pat Fahy and jockey Danny Mullins.

The eight year old gelding's previous win was at Limerick in March 2016 and today ended a 12 race losing spell when scoring a four and a quarter lengths win over staying on runner-up Scoir Mear

Trainer Fahy later said “maybe we were running him over the wrong trip, and he made that look very simple. I had dreams of winning three-mile chases but in fairness David Mullins said this trip (two miles) was fine for him.

"It's a good day to get a winner, and he could come back here for a good handicap next month."

Jockey Mullins added "it's great to get back on the board, and to ride a winner for Pat who is local to us. This horse can be a bit keen but on heavy ground two miles is perfect for him, and a light weight on this ground is a huge advantage.

"He didn't jump great around some of the smaller tracks but back here he galloped and jumped."
