Friary Rock was a surprise winner of the Support Local Stay Local Beginners Chase, with Phillip Enright aboard this 20/1 chance for Mouse Morris.

Successful over flights at Sligo last summer, the son of Spanish Moon was well-beaten on his first two tries over the larger obstacles.

Having raced mainly in second this evening, he was left in a clear lead when the front-running Turnpike Trip (6/5f) crashed out at the third last.

Given a reminder on the approach to the final fence, the bay victor was eased on the run-in as he came home four lengths to the good from Definite Plan (9/1) and Keith Donoghue in second. Young Ted (12/1) completed the placings another nine lengths back in third in race where very few ever got involved.

"He had a nice run here the last day and he was in the Curragh during the week and he worked nicely," Enright said.

"We were confident he would run well, he likes good ground and he jumped very well today. When the favourite fell it gave us a better chance. I was still travelling well enough when he fell but it was a long way out.

"He has form over three miles so we knew he would stay well and Mouse had him in great order for today."
