Two In One sprang a 33/1 surprise in the Apple Recruitment Services Handicap Hurdle, scoring under Luke Dempsey for his father Philip.

Previously trained by Johnny Feane and Gavin Cromwell, the son of Berstein was placed once on his fourteen previous starts.

He fell over fences on his most recent outing at Leopardstown in March, and was fitted with cheekpieces for the first time today.

Sent straight to the front, the bay seven-year-old made all, and kept on well under pressure from the last, going on to score by a length and three parts.

Fellow outsiders Pat's Pearl (25/1) and Ashjan (25/1) finished second and third, with a length between them at the line.

The 15/8 favourite Banksoftheshannon was pulled up before the third.

The winning handler said afterwards: "He got a dreadful fall and we actually had to send him down to Ger Kelly to operate on him and he got him back.

"We schooled him over fences but he was afraid for his life so we gave him a run over hurdles. He had been working well.

"There was no pace and he sat in front. He was very game.

"The syndicate (the Red Mans Cave Syndicate) are all from Louth - they are all football mad and couldn't make it as there is a match on.

"We will keep him going and he'll go back over fences, that will help his confidence."
