Tylery Wonder lead home a 1, 2 for trainer Paul Midgley in the Joe McGrath Handicap.

The seven-year-old son of Choisir won this race in 2015 when trained by Willie McCreery, and he joined Midgley and owners Taylor's Bloodstock Ltd. the following year.

He recorded his first victor for his new connections at York in July, and having opened at 16/1 on-course this afternoon, he eventually went off a well-supported 10/1 chance.

Sent straight to the front by Leigh Roche, the chestnut victor made all. He was ridden a furlong and a half from home, and kept on well from there to score by a length and a half.

Stable mate Monsieur Joe (7s to 5s on-course) finished second under Pat Smullen, while Enter The Red (8/1) was half a length back in third for Chris Hayes and Aidan Howard. Magic Bear was sent off the 9/2 favourite, and she finished a disappointing ninth under Oisin Orr for Eddie Lynam.

Midgley said afterwards: "It's a nice surprise to be perfectly honest as I thought the ground would be too slow for him. He got a length out of the gate and never really looked like he was going to get beat.

"He battled away good on ground that is probably too slow for him.

"Monsieur Joe has run great as well. Age is probably catching up a little bit with him but he's still got plenty of will to win.

"I think Tylery Wonder finished fourth in this race last year and won it the year before. He won too well at York and the handicapper murdered him. It's taken him until now to get back to a winning mark."

STEWARDS REPORTS

The Stewards fined Barry John Murphy, trainer, E350 for lodging a facsimile of the passport in respect of Spirit Quartz in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91. The Stewards allowed the horse to run on receipt of the trainer's written assurance that the vaccinations were in order.

The Stewards interviewed J.A. Heffernan, rider of Maarek (GB), concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that J.A. Heffernan was in breach of R10(3)(f) by using his whip with excessive frequency and therefore suspended him for 1 raceday having taken his previous record into consideration. Mr Neville O'Byrne, Acting Steward, absented himself from this enquiry and Mr Philip Myerscough acted as Chairman.
