On what proved a good afternoon for local trainers, Robert Murphy struck in the final race of the four-day Tramore Festival meeting as Mrs Mac Veale took the Tramore Amusement & Leisure Park Mares Beginners Chase.

A first winner at the meeting for Andrew McNamara, the nine-year-old mare was adopting a change of tactics in making all over this two miles and seven furlongs.

The patiently-ridden 6/4 favourite Definite Ruby and Dominetta Vitali both threw down challenges from the second last but the daughter of Karinga Bay had enough in the tank.

McNamara’s mount kept on gamely on the short run-in to hold off the ‘jolly’ by half a length, with seven lengths back to Dominetta Vitali in third.

Successful owner Pat Corkery said, "She was in season yesterday, and she was never as good this year as she was today."
