Cosmic Vega galloped on strongly in the closing stages to run out a convincing winner on his 'official' debut at Leopardstown this afternoon.

Jessica Harrington 's charge had been fourth in a barrier trial at Dundalk late last month and put that experience to good use today in the seven-furlong maiden.

Shane Foley settled behind the leaders on the 7/4 favourite before sending him into the lead over a furlong from home. Razdan travelled up to his girth to pose a danger but Cosmic Vega shook him off in the closing stages to post a two-and-a-half length win.

“He ran in a barrier trial and ran well in that. That stood to him today,” said Harrington.

“He probably wants a bit better ground but he got through that today and he's a winner of a maiden so it's great.

“He's a big baby still and he might come back here at the end of the year for the Eyrefield Stakes.”
