Review leopardstown 23rd Oct

< Making Light s victory in the Group Three Killavullan Stakes was the highlight of a Leopardstown double for Dermot Weld and Pat Smullen.

The daughter of Tamayuz proved her liking for rain-affected conditions when running away with a Limerick maiden at the start of the month but had much more on her plate against the colts this time.

That didn't stop her going off the 3-1 joint-favourite and she displayed a pleasing attitude in knuckling down to keep Spirit Of Valor a length at bay, having hit the front inside the final two furlongs.

Her stablemate Titus made the perfect beginning to his career with victory in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF (C & G) Maiden.

The 8-1 shot tracked the leaders until Smullen moved him to within striking distance rounding the turn, and he stayed on well to account for Venice Beach who was best of five Ballydoyle newcomers, by half a length.< Flying Fairies has been a model of consistency this campaign and registered a deserved first Listed success in the Trigo Stakes.

Joe Murphy's daughter of Holy Roman Emperor showed a smart turn of foot to put the race to bed halfway down the straight, with Weld's returning odds-on favourite Zawraq unable to land a serious blow, coming home three and a quarter lengths adrift of the 11-1 winner.

The David Wachman-trained White Satin Dancer (4-1) confirmed the promise of her debut third behind Hydrangea at the Curragh back in August by hammering her opponents in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden, beating Xenobia by four and three-quarter lengths.< Catch A Wave (11-1) came up short in an auction race at Naas last week but bounced to back to form to claim top honours in the Leopardstown Club Members Nursery Handicap.< Beau Satchel (16-1) put his best foot forward to land the Leopardstown Christmas Festival Handicap, while Carraigin Aonair prevailed in the Flat Finale October 29th Handicap.
