Review leopardstown 3rd Feb

< Supasundae claimed the scalp of Faugheen in the BHP Insurance Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown.

After his flop over Christmas, Faugheen looked more like his old self when making the running but Supasundae was always in close attendance.

Faugheen still held a slight advantage at the last but Supasundae (8-1), who has Stayers' Hurdle aspirations at Cheltenham, had the superior reserves of stamina and pulled two and a quarter lengths away.

Despite Faugheen's eclipse, Willie Mullins had a great day, capped when Footpad made it three from three over fences in the Frank Ward Solicitors Arkle Novice Chase.

The 4-9 favourite led and had just Petit Mouchoir for company from a long way out, but his jumping was fluent and economical and he wasn't hard pressed to triumph by five lengths.

His stablemate Min lost a race in the stewards' room to Simply Ned over Christmas here but got his revenge in the Coral Dublin Chase.

His task was made slightly easier, though, because having taken the lead off Special Tiara approaching the last, the 11-8 favourite was being pressed by Ordinary World who made a terrible mistake, allowing Min to coast home 12 lengths ahead of Simply Ned.< Yorkhill struggled from a long way out and was disappointing again.< Patricks Park (6-1) in the Coral Sandyford Handicap Chase and Blackbow (11-4 favourite) in the Goffs Future Stars (C & G) I.N.H. Flat Race provided Mullins with the other winners in a four-timer.< Tower Bridge sprung a big shock in the Nathaniel Lacy & Partners Solicitors Novice Hurdle.

Favourite Fabulous Saga held a clear advantage but the pack closed up before the last and although Jetz and Carter McKay knuckled down well, J J Slevin swooped on Joseph O'Brien's unconsidered 25-1 shot to beat Jetz by a head.

His owner JP McManus also took the valuable Coral Hurdle courtesy of the progressive Charles Byrnes runner Off You Go (6-1).
