Review navan 10th Dec

The Gigginstown House Stud bandwagon shows no sign of stopping and Tony Martin's Dedigout (7-4 favourite) handsomely defied a winner's penalty in the Meath Novice Hurdle at Navan.

In command from the outset under Davy Russell, the imposing son of Bob Back was briefly passed down the far side as Springfield Way took up the running.

But Russell muscled his way back to prominence on Dedigout coming to the third-last and it was clear by the penultimate flight that the relentless galloper was not for catching.< Mart Lane stuck on well for second but was three and a half lengths down at the line.

Russell and Gigginstown were also on the mark with Start Me Up in the Navan Golf Course Beginners Chase.

Trained by Charlie Swan, the 9-2 shot looked a most unlikely winner as Berties Dream and Carloswayback fought it out heading to the last but they weakened close home, allowing Start Me Up to power between the two for a head success.

Eamonn's O'Connell's 11-year-old Powerstation (14-1) showed the fire still burns bright with a seventh career success in the Proudstown Handicap Hurdle.

Formerly placed at four Cheltenham Festivals, the old-stager built on last month's Clonmel third with a battling length-and-a-half success over He'llberemembered < Foildubh (7-1) appreciated the drop in class when recapturing the winning thread in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Novice Chase.

Second to Quel Esprit at Naas before finding Grade Two company a little too hot at Punchestown, John Ryan's charge cruised into contention three out and went on to beat Jim Will Fix It by two and three-quarter lengths.

Noel Meade's impressive Down Royal bumper winner Monksland (4-6 favourite) supplemented those recent gains with a taking display on his jumps debut under Paul Carberry in the Kells Maiden Hurdle.< Local Celebrity (11-4), trained by Willie Mullins and ridden by his son Patrick, ran out a 10-length winner of the Irish Stallion Owners EBF Maiden Hurdle.
