Review roscommon 28th Aug

< Sollertia put the benefit of a promising debut run to really good use when claiming the decent prize on offer in the Foran Equine Irish EBF Auction Race at Roscommon.

The Mastercraftsman filly shaped with plenty of encouragement in a hot Curragh maiden last month and was much more streetwise on this occasion, tackling Highway To Heaven with a furlong to run and sticking on well to score by a length and three quarters under Pat Smullen.

Smullen was seen to really good effect thirty minutes later as he produced a power-packed ride aboard Knowing You who finished with a late surge to land the Murray Ambulance Maiden.

The 3-1 victor was well backed beforehand but looked in trouble turning for home before Smullen worked his magic, conjuring a surging late run from his charge who eventually got the job done by three quarters of a length.

There was to be a four-timer on the night for that man Smullen as he guided Ontheiflist (3-1) to a four and three quarter length victory in the Peggy Guerin Memorial Handicap and then Lord Erskine (10-1) to an eight length triumph in the concluding Sean Clearly Memorial Handicap.< Sirjack Thomas (15-8 joint-fav) displayed a really good attitude when running out a game winner of the opening Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden.

With Mount Wellington again disappointing, it was left to Sirjack Thomas and Himmah to fight it out for top honours with the former prevailing by three quarters of a length having fought off a sustained challenge from his market rival in the home straight.

With a furlong to run of the Eurona BriskNet Handicap, any number appeared to be in with a winning chance but Youceeyouceecee (8-1) picked up best of all and went on to score by two and a quarter lengths.< Giorni Felice (5-2) built on a promising debut offering when breaking his duck in the Abbey Hotel Roscommon Maiden, getting the better of Newcross by a length and a quarter.
