Black Magic Woman who provided trainer Jack Davison with his first winner at Dundalk last year, recorded her third career victory in the Tote Supporting Irish Racing Since 1930 Race at Fairyhouse.

The progressive Camacho filly, who was following up a Gowran Park win just last week and was well-backed on track from 9/2 into 7/2, challenged on the outer in the straight.

She quickened to the front over a furlong out and despite edging right under Gary Halpin still kept on well to beat Nebo by a length and three quarters, with 11/8 favourite Highland Dress a further four and a quarter lengths away in third.

Locally based Davison said, “She’s had a few runs this year but is a proper race mare. She’s thriving on it and since I took the headgear off she’s running that bit more relaxed and finishing off well.

“I have my eye on a fillies handicap at the Curragh on Derby weekend, and hopefully the handicapper isn’t too hard on her.

“I’d hope she’ll shape up into a black type filly and she has an entry in the Brownstown back here next month. I hope she keeps progressing.”

The Dunboyne trainer is also looking forward to bringing Fresnel to Royal Ascot next week and added, “She’ll go for the Ribblesdale, and will have a gallop here (at Fairyhouse) after racing. She’s progressed with each and every run.

“I know we are competing with the big boys but I’m really looking forward to Ascot.

“She ran well in the Musidora and has stepped forward since then. She’s an absolute professional and you won’t stress her out too easily. She travelled over well to York and took the whole occasion very well.”
