Bowerman made his first visit to Dundalk a winning one as he ran out a convincing winner of the mile conditions race on tonight's card.

Ado McGuinness' charge had won three times on the all-weather in England but was making his first start on an artificial surface since being picked up by current connections last summer.

He had won on the turf at Gowran for McGuinness last September.

Ronan Whelan, securing a double on the card, tracked leader Annie Fior before sending his mount for home a furlong-and-a-half out.

4/5 favourite No Needs Never loomed large early in the straight but couldn't go with the winner inside the final furlong as Bowerman stayed on well to record a two-and-three-quarter length win.

“He's a really nice horse,” said McGuinness.

“We castrated him, he was really laid back but we just felt that he was getting on and we felt we needed to take them out. They were huge and I don't even know how he was able to gallop with them!

“With the bits of work he'd been doing at home we knew he'd turned inside out.

“I didn't think he'd run to a mark of 101 tonight but out there it looked like he did. He's a better horse on the all-weather.

“There is a Listed race in the south of France in four or five weeks time and we might venture out there or look for something in England.

“He could be a horse for the finals day at Lingfield but the only thing is that he likes a big long straight.

“He's a big horse with a round action and this straight here suits him really well. He held the other horse well.

“The boys have been with me a long time. They've been very lucky and I only wish every other owner with me was as lucky as they are.”
