Cornakill Rose provided Co. Cavan trainer Patrick Magee with this first success, as she made all in the opener at Bellewstown, the Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale 14th - 15th July Mares Maiden Hurdle.

Previously trained by Gordon Elliott, the Flying Legend eight-year-old finished a decent fourth on debut for Magee at Roscommon last month.

Sent off at 25/1 this afternoon, she was soon in front under Eoin Walsh. Strongly pressed by My Midnight from two out, she found plenty for pressure and kept on well on the run-in to score by two lengths in the colours of the Black Steel Square Syndicate.

The aforementioned My Midnight (11/8f) wandered around when ridden before the last and she had to settle for second under Cathal Landers for Andy Slattery, fourteen lengths clear of Bioverdia in third.

"That's great and she got a great ride out in front," said Magee.

"We knew she had improved from the last day so we are delighted.

"That's my first winner and only my fourth runner. I only got the licence in January and I'm delighted.

"We'll see what the handicapper does and we'll be looking at Galway."
