Nobody Home (7/2) gained a fifth career success when he took the Mullingar Veterans’ Handicap Chase by five lengths from the well-backed 11/4 favourite Brogine
The 10-year-old, a good third to yesterday’s Limerick winner Visioman on his previous outing over the course and distance last month, led between the final two fences and won eased down from the staying-on but never threatening market leader.
A three-time winner over hurdles, Nobody Home was winning his second chase with his previous chase win coming at this track in 2017. Chris Timmons’ mount had been off over seven months before that promising placed effort in early September.
Winning owner/trainer Eddie Cawley said: "It's always nice to win one. He was probably due a chase at some stage, he's let us down a few days.
“He always jumps well and seems to like it around here. He had a good run the last day and he won his first handicap around here very well.
“He got a decent hike after that and it probably curtailed him for a while. He's probably as high now as you'd want him in the handicap for what he is.
“There are a few of those races around and I wouldn't mind going to two-six or two-seven him with him on nice ground.
“Chris (Timmons) was saying the ground was a bit tacky today and it wouldn't have helped his jumping. Normally he's a great jumper and I've seen him jump better than he did today.
“Hopefully we might get another one with him somewhere along the line.”
