Ballyhane Stud stallion Elzaam was responsible for the winner of the opening divide, Never Mistabeat and split two of the Crowne Plaza Hotel Dundalk Handicap also went to one by that Redoute’s Choice horse as Storm Elza emerged victorious.

Like Ballyhane, winning trainer Barry Fitzgerald is also based in County Carlow, and the victorious five-year-old mare, getting off the mark at the tenth time of asking, was hanging on at the finish.

That was because Pineapple Express produced a whirlwind finish but failed by half a length to get there.

Luke McAteer donned the silks of owner/breeder Michael Foley on Storm Elza (17/2).

“The last few runs she had wide draws and she was drawn a bit better today. She had to get a good break to get into the bend early and Luke gave her a lovely ride," said Fitzgerald.

“She’s declared again on Friday and is the third reserve. If she gets in she’ll run.

“She had some good early three-year-old form on grass and then lost her way a bit.

“Beauchamp Bagenal (won three times last year including a good handicap at Leopardstown) was sold to Bahrain and has won out there.

“We have 13 in at the moment between Flat and National Hunt.”

W.M. Lordan, rider of Manap (GB) trained by Gavin Cromwell, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount hung left in the straight. In light of this report the Stewards reviewed the horses record and noted a history of similar reports.

The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Manap (GB), trained by Gavin Cromwell, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.

Sam Ewing, rider of Latchet trained by Leanne Breen, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount clipped a heel turning in. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the matter the Stewards were satisfied that no further action was warranted.
