Broome had to work hard to grab victory close home in the Holden Plant Rentals Alleged Stakes at the Curragh.

The Ballydoyle colt, landing a treble on the day for Aidan O'Brien and Ryan Moore in the Group 3 contest, went to post a 1/2 shot after an impressive seasonal debut at Naas last month.

Moore had to roust his mount along early on to sit behind the leaders in the ten furlong contest and was niggling turning for home. Thundering Nights hit the front a furlong from home with Broome under pressure in fourth at that point.

The hotpot found his feet inside the final furlong, however, and pegged back the leader close home to record a half length win.

O’Brien said:- “He’s a lovely horse and will probably love going back up to a mile and a half.

“It was nice that he didn’t have to make the running and Ryan was very happy with him.

“He can have a look at races like the Coronation (Cup) and the Tattersalls (Gold Cup).

“Ryan felt the pace was nice early and then dropped in the middle of the race. He had to work a bit harder than if the pace was consistent over a mile and a quarter. He’s brave.”
