The Irish EBF Supporting Irish Champions Weekend Maiden saw Red Wasp (10s into 7/1 on the show) get off the mark on her second start.

Dropped in from her inside draw, she was switched left a furlong out and picked up well to race through a gap and beat Elegant Ellen by half a length. The 5/4 favourite Mickey The Steel finished fourth, albeit only a little over a length off the winner.

Winning rider Billy Lee said: "The plan was just to get a lead on her and I suppose you are open to a bit of luck then. To be fair, I had plenty of horse underneath me.

"I just angled her out and I had plenty of room. When I got the gap, she picked up well; she has won cosy at the line. I think she is a proper five (furlong) filly - it is only her second run.

"The first-time tongue-tie helped. The tongue-tie is there because she messes with her tongue a small bit and to keep it down.

"She had a good run the first day when she was quite raw, and was quite green again today. I expect she will improve; it was a good performance."
