Nana Patsy powered away inside the final furlong to run out a convincing winner of the first division of the Mallow Handicap at Cork this evening.

John McConnell 's charge had shown promise on her handicap debut at the Curragh last time when staying on from the rear to finish mid-division.

There were a least eight in with a shout coming to the furlong pole in today's seven-furlong contest but Nana Patsy soon asserted.

Siobhan Rutledge drove her mount clear in the closing stages as the 10/1 shot recorded a three-and-a-half length success over 20/1 outsider Jm Barrie

"She had a good run in the Curragh on her first start for a while. She missed the break that day and it was good she jumped with them today,” said McConnell.

“She had always showed a fair bit at home but things hadn't gone right for her.

"It's nice for Derek (Kierans), who supports me a lot and it's also Siobhan's first winner for him.

"The filly is named after Derek's late Mam, so it is a sentimental win. I met her through Derek and she was always a lovely lady who liked having a bet - I'd say she had a few quid on her in the sky."
