The opening race of the two-day Listowel meeting, the www.listowelraces.ie Median Auction Maiden, went to the Jessica Harrington trained One Fine Day with Fran Berry in the saddle.

The 3yo daughter of Choisir was sent off the 2/1 favourite after running a cracker on her debut at Navan last month where she finished a good fourth just over two lengths behind Coin Of Courage.

The Tommy Stack trained Romantic Stroll attempted to make all under Wayne Lordan but was headed by the winner and could offer no more when headed a furlong from home.

One Fine Day stayed on strongly from there to score by four and a quarter lengths from the aforementioned Romantic Stroll back in second at 9/2.

The 7/2 second favourite Custom Cut finished a further two and three parts of a length back in third under Danny Grant for George Kent.

Winning rider Fran Berry said afterwards: "I had her in a grand position during the race and she picked up very well.

"She is versatile ground wise and should improve again."

Berry went on to talk about the ground saying: "It's not too bad for the first race but it will probably ride heavy now for the rest of the day."

The winner is a half-sister to the Austin Leahy trained Bulgaden who disappointed at Clonmel on Thursday when sent off the favourite to win a maiden hurdle.
