FormscanBy Alan Magee - It’s not too often you get a horse appearing here on the back of running in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at Cheltenham but that’s the case with BERKSHIRE ROYAL even though it was the 2020 version behind Shishkin. The son of Sir Percy was a progressive handicapper for Andrew Balding winning three times as a three-year-old and was certainly thrown in the deep end by current connections for that hurdle debut. He’s obviously held in high regard and, while it’s a serious concern that he’s only had that one run in the past two and a half years, Willie Mullins’ charge is fancied to take advantage of this drop in class. Homme D’un Soir won a bumper on Gowran Park’s Thyestes Chase card last year and, following a number of promising efforts over hurdles, took a Down Royal maiden in good style last time. The Getaway Star won twice in bumpers and has strong claims on her second to Black Tears in the Grade 3 Quevega Hurdle at Punchestown.
