FormscanBy Tom Weekes - This would normally be a very competitive handicap but the manner in which NORDIC PASSAGE won at Naas on Monday suggests he is the horse to beat. Formerly a winner when with John Gosden, he was picked up by current connections for just 11,000gns in May 2019 and while he initially showed little, he benefitted from the drop in rating when winning at Naas. He carries a mandatory 6lbs penalty today but is officially 5lbs well-in and his rider again claims 3lbs. Dark Vader was fourth in a Listed race at Leopardstown on Tuesday and could go well today as he drops back a furlong in distance having proven himself with two good runs in handicaps last year. There are many other more exposed types with still obvious form claims including last July's Scurry winner Verhoyen, a dual course and distance winner, and consistent performers Ice Cold In Alex, which would ideally want a furlong further, and Arcanears while Alfredo Arcano is a very capable previous course and distance winner but that was his only win on turf and seems to reserve his best form for the all-weather.
An extended handicap for three years old and upwards (100 = 10st) Weights - Top weight in the original handicap and after the time of declaration shall not be less than 10st and the minimum weight is 8st 6lbs Penalties - (after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 6lb extra for each race won.
