L.F. Roche, rider of Misty Lane, trained by Reginald Roberts, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount was forced to check close home. The Stewards enquired into an incident approximately one furlong from the finish involving Slipper Orchid, ridden by S. Foley, Steip Amach, ridden by K.J. Manning, Duchess Andorra, ridden by N.G. McCullagh, and Byzantium (GB), ridden by W.M. Lordan, where it appeared Steip Amach ran short of room and was forced to check. Evidence was heard from the riders concerned. Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards found S. Foley in breach of Rule 214 by riding carelessly and having taken his record into account suspended him for one race day.
An extended handicap for three yrs old and upwards fillies only (100 = 10st) Penalties - (after calculation of the handicap) A winner shall carry 5lb extra; for each race won. Any horse rated above 100 shall initially be treated as having that rating and the highest weight allotted shall be 10st. Subsequently, the excess over 100 in any rating shall be added to the weight allotted to that horse. (For the purpose of this note, any three year old rated above 100 shall have the applicable weight for age allowance then prevailing deducted from the horse's rating prior to the original calculation of the handicap)
