- Stewards Report
Permission was given for Cool Spirit (GB), Nacho (IRE) and Mutawaffer (IRE) to go early to post.
Prior to this race, Tony Coyle was asked to explain why he was running Newgate Angel (GB) here at Beverley on going described as Good to Firm, Good in places, having declared the mare a non-runner at Redcar on 28 August 2021 on ground with the same official description.
The trainer’s representative stated that having walked both courses, they felt that the going at Redcar was worn having seen more racing over the season, and with a better covering of grass at Beverley, were happy for the mare to take her chance.
Having viewed recordings of the start, the Stewards were satisfied that Mutawaffer (IRE) had veered left leaving the stalls and unseated James Sullivan after the start had been effected.
Mutawaffer (IRE) was deemed to be a runner and it was found that no other horse or rider was involved.
Callum Rodriguez, the rider of Gorgeous General (GB), drawn 6, had been slow to remove the blindfold.
The explanation from Rodriguez that the gelding was restless in the stalls and the blind was difficult to remove was noted.
The performance of Cool Spirit (GB), which started favourite and finished seventh, was considered.
It was noted that David C.
Griffiths could offer no explanation for the gelding’s performance.
