An enquiry was held to consider why Jim Boyle was running Harrogate (IRE) here at Brighton on going described as Good to Firm, Good in places, having declared the gelding a non-runner at Epsom on 27 August 2019 on ground with the same official description.
The trainer stated that having walked the course, in his opinion, the ground at Brighton had a good covering of grass and as this was likely to be Harrogate (IRE)’s final run of the season with limited opportunities remaining he was therefore happy for the gelding to take its chance.
Permission was given for Pour La Victoire (IRE) to go early to post; Mamillius (GB) wore earplugs throughout the race.
Whataguy (GB), drawn 5, anticipated the start and accelerated the gate at the same moment as the race had been started thereby enabling the gelding to break quickly.
Being satisfied that it was not caused through a faulty action of the starting stalls, no further action was taken.
Harrogate (IRE), drawn 7, anticipated the start and accelerated the gate at the same moment as the race had been started.
Following the race, Pat Cosgrave reported that Mamillius (GB), placed third, hung left-handed.
