The Stewards interviewed C.P. Hoban, rider of What Lies Ahead, concerning his use of the whip in the closing stages of this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 10.3(a), in that he had used his whip down the shoulder in the fore hand position. Having considered his previous good record, the Stewards cautioned him. The Stewards fined Adrian Paul Keatley, trainer, ?350 for lodging a passport in respect of Captain Carleton, the winner of this race, in which the vaccinations did not conform with the provisions of Rule 91.
