At the first hurdle, the winner, John Betjeman (GB), jumped left-handed, interfering with both Leroy Brown (GB), placed fourth and Ascot Day (FR), placed second, on its inside, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of John Betjeman (GB).
Following the race, Charlie Price reported that Ascot Day (FR), placed second, ran too freely in the early stages of the race.
