The first fence in the back straight was omitted for safety reasons and the second fence in the back straight was changed from a regulation to a plain fence.

Jockey Davy Russell did well to win with MOUFTARI here. MOUFTARI has proven difficult to win with and Russell 'kidded' the gelding into contention but needed a slice of luck to win on the line. Trainer Charles Byrnes mentioned "Davy (Russell) is the only man who can ride that horse!" The winner does have ability but needs things to go his own way to win.

GIOLLA AN BHAIRD was unlucky not to make all. He was only headed close home and can win a similar race, despite his advancing years.

SLYGUFF RORY is something of a funny fish himself and is still a maiden over fences, despite showing distinct promise on several occasions. He would take plenty of beating in an average beginners' chase, provided he reproduced his best form while he is also capable of winning from his current handicap mark in a similar event.

LYDON HOUSE received a 16lbs rise following a good run when third at Punchestown when well out of the handicap on his latest start but made two bad mistakes and never counted today.

Non-Runners were Royal Spring (lame) and Nine O (family berevement).
