An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference on the run to the line when the winner, Cawthorne (GB), ridden by Paddy Brennan, interfered with Jessica Rabbit (GB), placed second, ridden by Max Kendrick.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Cawthorne (GB)’s placing as although Jessica Rabbit (GB) was intimidated off its intended line over a sustained period of time, the mare lost no momentum as a result of the interference and was always being held by the winner to be beaten by ½ a length at the line.
Brennan was cautioned for careless riding as he failed to take sufficient steps to prevent his mount from drifting left-handed.
The apparent improvement in form of the winner, Cawthorne (GB), which had never previously been placed, was considered.
Oliver Greenall’s representative was interviewed.
His explanation that the gelding appreciated the return to hurdling and, in his opinion, jumped better on this occasion, was noted.
Cawthorne (GB) was routine tested.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that The Crazed Moon (IRE), placed third, finished lame on its right-fore and Jesse Jude (IRE), which was pulled up, bled from the nose.
Clare Hobson reported that Bullsempire (IRE), unplaced, had a breathing problem.
