Permission was given for BARNEY BEETLE to be mounted on the track.
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference on the run to the line when the winner SULLIVAN’S BROW (IRE) ridden by Theo Gillard interfered with Drenagh (IRE), placed third, ridden by Sean Bowen.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved the placing of SULLIVAN’S BROW (IRE) as the gelding had originally come from behind Drenagh (IRE) and appeared to be gaining the ascendency in their sustained duel before Drenagh (IRE) ran out of racing room on the rail and ended up being beaten by a short head and 1½ lengths at the line.
Gillard was suspended for 4 days for careless riding as he had allowed his mount to hang left-handed under a persistent right-hand drive without timely correction, causing Bowen to take a significant check after being tightened against the rail.
Following the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that Russian Virtue (GB), unplaced, lost its right fore shoe.
