She is a lovely mare, did it very well and while that probably wasn't her ideal ground, it was great to see her go out and do it. She jumped brilliant and is a real chaser in the making and I'm just delighted to win with her. Riding arrangement-wise I'm not sure what way the Robcour runners are at the moment and Robbie (Power) rode a winner for us recently in those colours. We'll see how it unfolds.

Paul had a bad fall riding out this day week so this is a good tonic. It will take time to recover but he'll be fine. She would have hated that ground and I thought Gary rode a smashing race. He deserved that as he is a very consistent horse and all his runs have been good. He has learned to settle and settled lovely today. We'll go for something similar in the spring and he handles that ground well and has good form in that ground.

Dream start for Flavin with Street Value

I did the training course on zoom last year and wasn’t really planning on getting the licence until about March but I worked this lad and a couple of others last week and they worked okay so I said I may get it out in case any of them win it would be a good way to start. I thought with a circuit to go he was struggling but thankfully Hugh kept a good hold of his head and kept him going. Hugh said he was flat to the boards the whole way. He’s a chaser in the making. I train only a mile from Tramore racecourse. I rode 20 winners as a conditional in England but I fractured by scull and my weight went against me. Training was always in the back of my head. I started with Michael Hourigan when he had Beef Or Salmon, and then I went to Richard Guset and on to Evan Williams. They are all very good trainers who train differently. I have about 15 in at the moment divided between the track and point-to-points. I hoped to build a new barn last summer but when the lockdown came I was a bit worried. Hopefully we’ll get that done this year and get a few more in.

Damut turns back the clock to record sixth career win

Before he came back to me, Paul Moloney (who cheered the winner home on the infield) spent his time training him on the beach and my own young fella Timmy and my wife still head off with him to Beale beach (north Kerry) two or three times a week. Paul is stone mad for racing and trained until five years ago but like most fellows training nowadays he couldn't make the books balance. He is now driving a lorry but his heart is in racing and we also gave him another horse to bring on - his heart and soul is inside in it. Darragh O'Keeffe said that when he wasn't able to go on, he loved being able to take his time and was able to get a feel for him and he loved that ground. He is after dropping down the grades and while every day I'm talking about retiring him, he'll keep going.

He was very tough. That ground wouldn't be to his liking but he's very consistent. He'll head to Thurles in a few weeks for another hunter chase. He'll be a lot better on better ground and is still only young, he'll be a grand horse.
