Company comes home alone in claimer
I think these races are a good idea and we're two from two in these new Claiming Hurdles,. My horses are there to be claimed and he'll be a fun horse for somebody. Mooltazem won't be getting a saddle on him in my place again and Doctor Phoenix seems to have been gone for a long time.
Lamarckise toughs it out on Irish debut
Feline opens account in style
The lads (Kilcommon Or Bust Partnership) had a horse with me before and he went wrong on us and got injured so I'm delighted with this,. This one has done them a turn now and she was unlucky to meet one of Henry's (De Bromhead) here at Limerick over Christmas. The winner was a good second at Gowran and the third won subsequently so the form has worked out well. I was worried about how deep the ground was but Bryan said she handles it well and was very similar to the Christmas ground. She went well to the line at Christmas and we were lucky she got the lesser side of the divide.
McKiernan keeps up good run with Decision
Townend and Mullins double up with Five
He made hard work of that but I think the race was a half mile or mile too short for him as he is an out and out stayer. The ground is really testing which I think he'll handle but with the trip we took a chance on running him because there wasn't a suitable race coming up. I know he has entries across (in Cheltenham) but we'll see what happens. We might see what handicap mark he gets because I asked Paul (Townend) what the second horse (Email Rose, rated 113) was rated so we might go down that route.
Bajan Excells at Limerick again
He is a strange one with the pedigree as he is slow and stays. He likes it around here and is tough,. I'm not sure where we go but I wouldn't mind stepping him up in trip either. He likes testing ground around here but I wouldn't rule out going chasing during the summer as he'd go on any ground.
Currig powers clear to record wide margin win
She was always promising to win one somewhere along the line but luckily my aunt Betty Moore has been very patient,. We said she would win and finally got there. Unfortunately she can't be here as she has the flu but she'll be watching from home and will be annoyed not to be here. She had a great run a few years back against geldings on heavy ground in a point to point and she is a Presenting mare and you'd think she wouldn't handle it but she does. Kevin gave her a fantastic ride and said he'd try something different today. He held her up a little bit, she isn't fast but she jumped and kept going. Hopefully the handicapper won't be too cruel to us and she is in again next Thursday so she'll run if she is right.
Philip Byrnes partners first racecourse winner on Vinnie
It was great to get that out of the way. Philip was 16 just before Christmas and he knew the horse very well and had ridden him in all his work. He knew what he was capable of. He spent two and a half years pony racing where he had 50 winners and he won the Dingle Derby in 2018. They get great experience at it but this is a big step up riding against the big boys. He is still at school and rides out before he goes to school, at weekends and sometimes when he comes home from school. I'm lucky enough to have the horses to put him up and kept a share in the young horses knowing this was coming. That's the problem with a lot of young jockeys starting off, they just can't get rides. He was second at Gowran the other day and we thought this horse was better; we were hoping he'd win and he was working very well. We think he is a fair horse and we'll find a winners' bumper next and he'll be kept to novice hurdling next year.
