Broughtons scores for Elliott/Donoghue
I rode him last week over hurdles and today he was a different horse. He travelled and jumped brilliant and in the end he actually did it easy, he was good and brave over the last two. I thought I was holding Johnny (Burke, Lettermacaward) and the jump at the last definitely sealed it. The better ground today suited, he likes that good ground.
First reserve wins handicap chase
we're delighted with him and he did it really well. He ran a lovely race in Roscommon the last day, he just got a bit tired two out and that run brought him on. In fairness I've only had the horse a few weeks. Louis (owner) and Matt Murphy have done most of the work with him and Matt has been telling me what I should be doing with him and keeping him right; I can't take much of the credit now, it's all down to the boys. I rode for Louis years ago in point-to-point's and I'm delighted to get a winner for him. He's in at Killarney next week and we'll see how he comes out of this. I got the call last night to say that there was one (Midnight Molly) coming out so I rang Louis to make plans about getting down here.
Ruby's 'wonderful ride' helps Manekineko win
I didn't think he should have been as big a price (joint outsider of five at 7/1) as he was; he did win a maiden hurdle and he got in a lot of trouble in Kilbeggan with fallers in front of him but no one seemed to pick up on that.
Walsh completes Tramore double
she's a very strong mare and has had five runs in point-to-points (for trainer Colin Bowe) in the middle of winter. She has held her condition fantastically and looks very strong after that season. Her pedigree suggested that she'd love this summer ground and being a point-to-pointer we had no issue with the trip or her jumping. It was a good performance carrying the eight pounds penalty and is a two and a half mile plus horse as she gallops all day. I'll keep going with her now until the ground softens up.
McNamara retires with fairytale winner
he only cost 600 quid eight weeks ago so they all don't have to cost 100,000 grand!. I'm delighted to be able to do it for Andrew; he said to me two or three weeks ago that he was going to retire so I said I'd 'I'll have to give you a winner' and I'm just thrilled to be able to do it for him!. Andrew rode my first winner which cost 600 quid and now he's going out on his last winner which also only cost 600 quid. Andrew has been a very good friend of mine over the years and it's great to be able to do it for him tonight.
Collen Beag claims third career win
I thought she'd run well and Johnny (Burke) was very confident. She's in again Sunday and if she's alright we might pull her out again. She's a game little mare to carry all the weight. I was running her in novice company and I just said I'd switch back.
O'Connell boys beat Mullins boys in bumper
I thought she'd win as she's a good mare.
