Formscan By Tom Weekes - TORQUAY ROAD is a three-time winner who drops to claimer company for the first time and has a solid chance under his 7lb claimer. The winner of two consecutive handicaps last summer, the selection has since shown form over fences and while well held at Kilbeggan last month, drops in class here. Rich Belief is an eight-time winner and scored in a similar claimer at Wexford 13 days ago but again has plenty weight and concedes 11lb to the selection. Three-time winner Woodstream Lad finished second in a Clonmel claimer last month and should also compete.

He’s only had four runs over hurdles since he won a good pot in Kelso. Every year he’d win on the Flat. He was never going down but he’d just improve a little bit to win. You could set your clock by him as he’d always win once a year. He’s getting a bit older and I’d said I’d chance it. I don’t like running in claimers but he’s at that age and going back to a handicap he’s going to be in no man’s land. He enjoyed that and when he’s enjoying things he can do it very easy. These races give those older horses a chance of going and doing something again. The fact that he had a couple of runs on the Flat, going back over hurdles then he’s just that bit sharper. He travelled a bit easier in the race. I’m delighted with him.

He got in close to the last two hurdles which didn't help him as he was tight for room, but it was a great ride by Eoin. It is nice to get another win out of him. He is a good honest horse, put his head down and Eoin said he wanted to win. I think he just began with a high rating at the start so it took him a while to find his feet, but he's really getting the hang of the jumping now. We are open to any plans with him at the moment, so we'll see.

When I got him, we dropped him in and he won two hurdles for us. We went over fences, he lost his confidence a little bit. He turned in going very well in Tipperary the last day, but from a slow pace just stayed going. We said we would make the running and try and change his mind a bit. His jumping at the top of the hill and at the last, he still wasn't brilliant, but I think that will give him a bit of confidence. He won well, but maybe an ordinary race. It is another winner, very happy. Calum is a very nice chap and a good rider.
