National Emblem wins Gowran's opener
he was good and professional although the ground was probably as quick as he wants. He did it well. Seven furlongs seems to be his trip and I think he’ll stay further in time. He was much more settled today than he was the first day in the Curragh. It’s great for Alpha Racing to get another two-year-old and they are having a great run of it at the moment.
Winning bracket for Ribblesdale relative
she’s a very well-bred filly. I trained both the dam and the grandam (Irresistible Jewel in 2002 and Princess Highway in 2012) to win the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot so it was important to get a winning bracket for her. She loved that fast ground and seven to a mile is probably the right trip for her. I trained her sister (Chiara Luna) to win over six.
Hayes completes Gowran double
I actually fancied this filly in Leopardstown the last day where she ran worse than bad but she has come back to form today. I’m glad that she’s proved herself on the grass. Garry (O’Gorman, handicapper) has her 6lb higher on the all-weather than on turf and he is normally right. She probably is as good on the turf.
Lightening strikes and is claimed for €20k
she’s had a few chances but it looked an ideal opportunity. It was a perfect race for her. She was keen early in the year and she probably thought she was a bit quicker than she is. Ben said she would probably get a mile and one around here. She likes the fast ground and could go back to Dundalk. She ran well there earlier in the year. There is probably a bit more improvement in her and she is there to be claimed.
Qaabil lands inspired gamble
we picked him out at Doncaster a couple of years ago for a syndicate, we had him for a season but ended up losing him to another trainer. So to get him back and win makes things all that sweeter. He will probably be sold to stay in the yard and will be great fun for a syndicate to run during the winter in Dundalk. I always thought a bit of him and I think stepping up to a mile is what he really wants. He was just ready for the run today and will progress a lot. If you have a good draw here and are close to the pace, you have a great chance of winning. He’ll love Dundalk as well so is going to be a real fun horse.
Duffy delivers with Phoenix Open
Garry (Fleming) is a great character, is a professor at Trinity College and along with his wife Maj, a dentist in Maynooth, they have a massive love for the game. They adore their horses. For me with a small yard and in tough times, it is hard to keep owners. Garry has never once blinked and everything I need he does for me and I'm delighted to repay him. I’ve been kicking myself going home a couple of times this year wondering how he got beat. He wants everything to fall right. He’s not ground dependent as he’s run well on soft ground but you have to fill him up with confidence. Danny was very good on him and filled him up turning in.
Third win for The Blue Panther
I was very disappointed at the Curragh last Saturday so we tried something different with him today. We put the cheek pieces on and I told Gary to hold him up. If anything Gary got there a bit early on him. Hopefully the handicapper won’t go mad on him. I was a little worried about the ground and we may go to Listowel next with him.
Zaynudin wins Gowran's finale
the step up in trip has definitely suited him and Shane said they went a good solid gallop. It’s the best I’ve seen him travel in a race and Shane said he didn’t realise how far he’d quickened clear. I’d think he’ll make a nice dual purpose horse. He’s a lovely mover and handled that ground well.
