Blanco boost for Tattersalls and Goffs

The Aidan O’Brien trained Cape Blanco delivered a timely catalogue update for his Oratorio half-brother when winning the Group 1 Tattersalls Millions Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown.

The son of Galileo won the event by an easy five and a half lengths from Rip Van Winkle and Twice Over, the first two home in the Juddmonte International.

Catalogued as lot 370 in the forthcoming Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 1, which coincidentally features the only yearlings eligible for the £1,750,000 Tattersalls Millions race series, the Oratorio colt out of Laurel Delight is also a half-brother to the Grade 1 placed Mr O’Brien.

DBS graduate Markab lands Sprint Cup

Just five days before the start of the DBS St Leger Festival Sales, Markab smashed the course record when winning the Group 1 Betfred Sprint Cup for Henry Candy and Pat Cosgrave.

The son of Green Desert was sold by Shadwell Estates to E. B. Giles for 33,000gns at the DBS Lincoln Handicap Sales 2007 and finished a close second in the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot earlier this year, but proved too good for his rivals at Haydock when sprinting home in a time of 1min 9.4secs, a shade over half a second quicker than the previous.

Goffs offer mare in foal to Sea The Stars

The first mare in foal to six-time Group 1 winning champion Sea The Stars to be offered at public auction will be at Goffs November Breeding Stock Sale.

The dam Karmifira is a Stakes winner and was second in the Group 1 French 1000 Guineas.

She has produced three winners including On Verra who was runner up in last year’s Group 1 Prix Marcel Boussac, as well as the three time winner and Stakes placed Keladora. Karmifira is consigned by Forenaghts Stud.

Harbinger sold to Japan

Harbinger, officially the highest-rated racehorse in the world prior to suffering a career-ending injury, has been sold to take up stud duties in Japan.

The four-year-old was a devastating 11-length winner of the Betfair-sponsored King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot on his latest start, but that turned out to be his last race after he fractured a leg on the Newmarket gallops.

New Tattersalls Breeze Up at Fairyhouse

Tattersalls is to restructure the calendar for its two breeze up sales in 2011.

The Tattersalls Guineas Breeze Up will be replaced by an all new fixture at Tattersalls Ireland and the Tattersalls Craven Breeze Up, Europe’s premier two year olds in training sale, will be expanded to accommodate approximately 250 lots.

Tattersalls Ireland will aim to catalogue 100 two year olds for the new sale which will take place on Thursday 28th April.
