The National Stud in England had successfully negotiated a deal to shuttle dual Gr.1 winning miler Dick Turpin to Australia for the 2012 Southern Hemisphere season.

The project, spear-headed by National Stud Chairman Ben Sangster and Managing Director Brian O’Rourke will see the Stud’s newest stallion travel to Western Australia and stand at Mungrup Stud (owned by Gray and Jan Williamson).

Managing Director Brian O’Rourke commented on the agreement:

“We are thrilled that Dick Turpin will be standing in the Southern Hemisphere. We were looking for a Stud that would support the horse and have a solid sales record to give his progeny the best possible chance in Australia.

"I think we have found that in Mungrup Stud. Gray and Jan Williamson have built up a really successful operation and we are delighted to be working with them.”

National Stud Chairman Ben Sangster added:

“The Western Australian market is saturated with Danehill line mares so being able to help provide an interesting out crossing opportunity for Australian breeders is very exciting.”

Mungrup Stud stands six stallions including Danehill Express who is currently 2nd on the Australian Leading First Season Sires List.

Yearlings sired by Mungrup Stud stallions have achieved sales averages in 2012 of $A47, 000 (Danehill Express) and $33,500 (Due Sasso).

Their flagship stallion is Oratorio (Stravinsky) and his stock has realised a very impressive yearling average of $A76, 000 and three lots sold at the recent Premiere Session (Magic Millions) achieved prices of over $A150, 000.

Dick Turpin stands at The National Stud, Newmarket for an advertised fee of £7,000 (1st October).
