Bay proves Resolute in a thriller
The two and a half miles Sheridan Electrical Castlebar Handicap Hurdle produced a tremendous three-way photo-finish, with Resolute Bay just snatching the spoils under Robert Jones.
The Philip Fenton-trained top-weight cut out most of the running but looked in trouble when headed by Schinkel before the last.
However Resolute Bay (7/1) jumped that flight much the better to regain a narrow advantage and, with Lea Lady finishing best of all on the outside, held on by a short-head from Schinkel (10/1) in a bobbing finish.
Lea Lady (25/1) was just another short-head away in third.
Winning trainer Philip Fenton said: “I didn't think we were up. The blinkers were a big help to him. We may go to Galway for another hurdle, and he'll probably go chasing then. He stays well and Robert rode him very well. He made good use of him and got good jumps out of him.”
