Big Success for Ross and Cawley

Sat 6th Dec 2008, 13:37

Cecil Ross has never hidden the high regard in which he holds Our Eric and the point-to-point and twice previously successful under Rules seven-year-old gained his biggest victory yet when taking the featured Proudstown Handicap Hurdle by a length and a half under Alain Cawley.

One of the outsiders of the field at 20/1, the lightly-weighted Tidaro gelding travelled strongly to deliver his challenge in the straight and he hit the front two out before going on to account for the market-leader, Hotterthanjuly

Ross said afterwards: "He is not big and he is unable to carry weights so we were hoping with the light weight today that he'd have a chance. We knew he was in great order coming here and he needs to run fresh. He'll have a break now. He has already won his point-to-point so he'll jump a fence." (EM)
