Bird breaks duck

Sat 9th May 2009, 17:36

Curling Bird runner-up on his last two visits to the course, made it third time lucky when claiming the 1m2f handicap at Dundalk.

Willie Supple let his mount hit the lead two furlongs out and he held the challenge of 2/1f Carlito Brigante inside the final furlong for a head victory.

"He's been running well. I wasn't sure about the step up in trip but he saw it out well," said winning trainer Paul Deegan.

"We'll look at the apprentice race at Killarney on Monday but he wouldn't run unless the ground was good.

"He has plenty of improvement and hopefully we'll have a bit of fun with him."
