Byrnes Beats bookies again
Trainer Charles Byrnes' bandwagon, presumably, left Wexford racecourse weighed down with cash today following the yard's latest inspired plunge, in the Irish Daily Mirror Ladies Day Handicap Chase with heavily backed winner Alfa Beat (3/1 - 13/8f).
Alfa Beat, formerly with Byrnes' neighbour trainer Carl Dore, was having his first run for Byrnes when landing a gamble at Kilbeggan recently and followed up that win with a staying win under Brian Byrnes (no relation of the trainer), at Wexford today.
Byrnes was not present for the win but owner Barry Healy did reveal "we thought he'd run well today as he loves that good ground - we'll see what the handicapper does next."
