Chancol has always been held in high regard by connections and, having gone off favourite on his debut in a sales race at the Fairyhouse Easter meeting, the Noel Meade-trained gelding opened his account in the bumper at Navan.

The French-bred gelding, a well-backed 11/4 chance, needed a strong drive from Nina Carberry to get the better of Lord Scoundrel by half a length. Another Rattler is certainly worth noting as he lost a lot of ground by running off the bend after the stands but still managed to take third spot on his debut.

On an otherwise great afternoon for the Willie Mullins yard at Navan (four winners), 6/4 favourite Sizing Brisbane found little inside the final quarter mile to finish seventh.

Meade said, “We’ve always loved him and he only had the one run in the sales race. He wants softer ground than that and he’ll go hurdling now. He jumps great.

“He might go to Leopardstown, it just depends on how the other J P (McManus) horses slot in.”
