Lord Scoundrel got off the mark on his debut over fences as he landed the Racing Post EBF Beginners Chase, providing his jockey Bryan Cooper and owners Gigginstown House Stud with a double on the card (earlier won with Devils Bride .

Having his first run since March the six-year-old son of Presenting was sent off the 5/2 second favourite with Rock On Fruity going off the 13/8 market leader.

Settled in mid-division he took closer order from five out and was pushed along to challenge the favourite on the approach to the straight.

He gained a marginal lead before two out and was left clear after that fence as Rock On Fruity crashed out.

He then came home in his own time with 18/1 chance The Winkler (Martin Ferris aboard for Eoin Doyle) finishing thirty-three lengths behind in second.

Bryan Cooper said afterwards: "He is a bit lazy and I was using Barry (Geraghty, on Rock On Fruity) as a lead. I was just going through the motions and thought I had him beaten.

"He can go (jump) a bit left so would have preferred going the other way around but today was all about jumping."
