Dawstown springs shock in opener

Mon 14th Nov 2011, 13:03

Tell Dawstown sprang a 20/1 shock when claiming the opening maiden hurdle at Limerick this afternoon.

Shay Barry was rowing along turning for home on the Tamayaz gelding but he worked his way into contention at the second last.

Debbie Hartnett 's charge went on before the final flight to record a length-and-a-quarter success over Tellherimnothere

The winner claimed a point-to-point, at Dawstown aptly enough, but had been a never dangerous sixth on his racecourse debut in a Galway bumper last month.

"He's exciting. He won first time at Dawstown and it was a fairytale win given what the horse is called. His owner Dan Fleming is from Dawstown as well," said Hartnett.

"He's a grand straight forward type and his jumping has come on no end. He liked that ground but would be ok on faster as well.

"He's only a baby and we'll keep him hurdling. He could go for a winners' novice next."
