Derinlaur dominates from the front

Tue 4th Oct 2011, 16:24

Derinlaur opened his chasing account at the seventh attempt when making all for a very convincing victory in the tipperaryraces.ie Beginners Chase.

Denis Hogan sent the nine-year-old gelding to the front soon after flagfall, and the partnership had built up a considerable lead at the halfway stage.

The son of Pistolet Bleu, a 9/1 chance, kept up the gallop in the straight for a four and and three quarter length success over the staying on Forjoetheplumber (6/1).

The well-backed evens favourite Rivage D'Or jumped reasonably on his debut over fences but was only making a little headway into the lead of the winner when a mistake two out ended any slim chance he had.

The jolly was eased when beaten on the run-in to finish a further seven and a half lengths adrift in third.

Winning trainer Charlie Swan said, “He's been in a long time and deserved that win. He doesn't like deep ground and more than likely he'll have a break and come back in the spring time.

“He's a very keen devil and its a case of whenever he switches off. He jumped well today and was like a handicapper in a beginners chase.”
