Dick Dundee a point-to-point winner at The Pidgeons before being sidelined for over 21 months, got his career back on track when making all to take the Black Point Beginners Chase at Wexford.

The Paul Nolan-trained 12/1 chance jumped well for Mikey Doran, and held the challenge of Dominetta Vitali (7/1) by two and a half lengths. Lisrose was all the rage on track (8/1 into 9/2) but could find no extra from two out to finish another 13 lengths back in third.

The stewards enquired into an incident just after the third last where the runner-up tried to go up the inside of the winner and hit the railing, losing a number of lengths in the process.

The placings remained unaltered, although Doran was given a three-day suspension for careless riding.

James Nolan, assistant to his brother Paul, said, “He’s been very disappointing over hurdles. We thought he was a good horse when he won his point-to-point but then he got a leg injury and was given all the time in the world to recover.

“He just came back this year and we had no real reason for his bad runs. All I can say is that’s the difference a fence makes!”
