'Fish man' takes Springfield Way

Just the one joint favourite obliged on the marathon 8-race card at Naas today as Springfield Way served up a 12/1 shock in the closing bumper.

Jamie Codd kept Thomas Walsh’s seven-year-old gelding up to his work to see out the two mile three furlong trip ahead of Portion Control (9/1) who appeared stuck on the rail at the business end of the race.

Streets Of NewYork (12/1) stayed on well from off the pace to take third but was disqualified for his rider Paul McMahon failing to draw the correct weight. McMahon weighed in four pounds light.

Favourite Shake The Bucket (11/8 from 7/4) was subsequently promoted to third from fourth place.

Successful trainer Thomas Walsh, who trains in Pilltown, Co Kilkenny, said: “He has won two point to points and was unlucky in a race won by Mossey Joe as he fell when leading.

“The syndicate are also from Pilltown, Co Kilkenny and my wife Joan heads it up.”
